Within the framework of cooperation between the International Labor Organization (ILO), its Training Center (ITCILO), the Central Bank of Iraq and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, we participated in a specialized workshop on “Making Green Microfinance Effective: Managing Product Diversification” which was held in Erbil for five days.

The workshop lasted for 5 days and focused on enabling financial institutions in Iraq to develop and diversify financial products that support green projects.

Through this workshop, participants from representatives of commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and the Central Bank of Iraq gained practical tools for designing green financing products that contribute to promoting sustainable job opportunities and protecting the environment.

The main topics focused on:

  • Developing green financing products for small and medium enterprises.
  • Effective strategies to access emerging green markets.
  • Aligning financial services with environmental, governance and social responsibility (ESG) principles.

Impact on the financial sector in Iraq

This workshop contributed to supporting the green growth strategy in Iraq, and provided financial institutions with the necessary tools to support the green sector, within the framework of the Central Bank of Iraq’s 4 trillion dinar initiative.

We are proud that our team participated in this valuable workshop and look forward to applying the knowledge gained to promote sustainability and support environmental projects in Iraq.
