The representative of the President of the Iraqi Banks Association, Mr. Muhammad Munther Al-Hanhal, participated in the conference organized by the Iraqi Society for Statistical Sciences in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Millennium Hotel.

A large number of researchers, academics, officials, businessmen, and various societal groups participated in this conference, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, the University of Basra, Al-Rafidain University College, and the Association of Private Banks.

The former Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and President of the Conference Organizing Association, Dr. Mahdi Al-Alaq, said: The conference is being held in Basra because it is a city worthy of attention due to the special economic and industrial activities it has witnessed over the previous decades, in addition to the volume of oil and gas extraction operations and petrochemical industries and their negative impact on the water environment, climate, soil, and life. He added that the conference comes as a continuation of the Iraqi and international interest in Iraqi climate issues, which is considered (one of the five countries most affected by environmental changes in the world), noting that its sessions will witness the discussion of climate and environmental issues that were discussed at the Iraq Climate Conference.
